Ikon vs Epic: Which Pass Offers Better Value for 2026-27
Most Ikon Pass vs Epic Pass comparisons assume you’ve already decided to buy a season pass.
This one doesn’t.

Sometimes an Ikon Pass makes the most sense. Sometimes an Epic Pass is the better value. And sometimes, a family planning a single ski vacation can save money by skipping a season pass entirely.
Also worth noting is that the Epic Pass and the Ikon Pass share no overlapping resorts. Your destination often decides your pass before price enters the chat.
But before comparing pass perks, blackout dates, and resort access, we'd like to start with more practical questions:
- How many days are you realistically skiing this season?
- What is the cheapest way to ski the days you actually plan to ski?
If you're planning more than one ski trip or skiing 15 to 30 days a season, a pass can be the more cost-effective option.
But if you're planning a single ski vacation between 4–7 days, discounted lift tickets can sometimes cost less than either pass.

Before You Compare Passes, Ask Whether You Need One
Season pass marketing aims to make you think about unlimited skiing. Most destination travelers do not ski unlimited days. They might only take 1-2 trips per year and spend between three and six days on snow.
If that's you, a season pass may still be the right choice, but it's not automatically the best value.
We have this conversation with our clients every year. Many are convinced they need a pass because daily lift ticket prices look expensive, and window rates are even higher on the day of.
Before comparing Ikon and Epic, start by estimating your total ski days for the season.
Once you know that number, you have the first piece of the puzzle solved.
When Are You Buying?
The timing of your purchase can be almost as important as the pass you choose.
If you're shopping in April, May, or June, you're seeing the lowest pass prices of the year. This is when season passes typically provide their strongest value.
Pass prices increase through summer and fall, and they go off sale entirely around December. Discount lift tickets may still be available for your chosen resorts into February and March.
That's why we rarely recommend choosing a pass based on today's price alone. The better question is whether you're buying early enough to take advantage of the pass's best value.
General rule: The earlier you plan your ski trip, the cheaper each part will be. This lowers the total cost.
How Firm Are Your Plans?
Before you compare ski pass benefits, consider how much of your ski season you have already planned.
If you've already chosen your destination and travel dates, evaluating your options is relatively straightforward. Compare today’s pass price with the discounted lift tickets from your lodging booking. Then choose the option that gives you better value.

Ikon vs Epic
For the 2026–27 season, both Ikon and Epic offer several pass options. Most travelers compare the flagship products and their lower-priced alternatives.

Epic's biggest advantage is scale. With 42 of the 90 resorts on the pass offering unlimited access, it's built for skiers who value flexibility across a broad network.
Ikon's strength is access to many of the marquee resorts travelers specifically plan destination ski vacations around. Resorts such as Aspen Snowmass, Deer Valley, Jackson Hole, and Big Sky are major reasons many destination skiers choose Ikon, even though fewer of its resorts offer unlimited access.
At the adult level, Epic generally costs less than the full Ikon Pass. For families, however, Ikon's child pricing is significantly lower than the comparable Epic options.
Price alone rarely determines the best choice. The best value isn’t always a pass. It’s the option—Ikon, Epic, or lift tickets—that costs the least for your trip.
