About Steamboat Resort

Affectionately known as "Ski Town, U.S.A." and "The Boat", Steamboat Resort is the second-largest ski resort in Colorado. It is located in the Park Range of the Rocky Mountains. Steamboat currently offers over 3,700 acres of terrain, 3 parks, and 182 trails serviced by 23 lifts.

Winter at Steamboat Resort

Steamboat is renowned for its Champagne Powder® snow, a phrase coined by local rancher Joe McElroy in the 1950s. Joe claimed the famously light and dry snow was “tickling his nose like champagne”.

Steamboat is one of only a few Colorado resorts to offer night skiing. It opens five groomed trails ranging from beginner to advanced terrain for night skiing: Sitz, See Me, Vogue, Stampede, and Lil’ Rodeo.

Summer at Steamboat Resort

Steamboat Resort offers activities for every age and interest throughout the summer. Mountain bikers will enjoy 2,200 vertical feet and miles of cross-country and downhill trails filled with natural and man-made features. Downhill, cross-country, cruiser, and e-cruiser bike rentals are available, as well as lessons and clinics tailored to all skill levels.

Getting Around Steamboat Resort

Steamboat Resort is located two miles outside the town of Steamboat Springs (about 20 minutes by shuttle). Many lodging properties offer on-call shuttle service to easily transport guests to town or around the resort.

The convenient and complimentary Steamboat Springs Transit (SST) system offers transportation between the ski area, downtown, and various accommodations.

Ride-share options and cabs are also available.

What’s New at Steamboat Resort

In 2024, Steamboat completed phase one of the “Full Steam Ahead” expansion project. The improvements you can now enjoy include:

  • 650 new acres of expert terrain in Mahogany Ridge.
  • The Wild Blue Gondola, a top-to-bottom 10-person gondola (the longest and fastest in North America).
  • Greenhorn Ranch, a dedicated terrain-based learning center.
  • A new base area with improved accessibility, Skeeters Ice Rink, the new Mountain Stage, and The Range Food & Drink Hall.

New lodging options, hospitality offerings, and a redesigned gondola transit center are slated for future phases of the project.

Getting to Steamboat Resort

The closest international airport to Steamboat Resort is Denver International Airport (DIA), about a 3.5-hour drive. From the airport, take I-70 west through the Eisenhower Tunnel to Silverthorne (Exit 205). From Silverthorne, continue on CO 9 North to Kremmling. From Kremmling, head west on US 40 to Steamboat Springs.

The closest regional airport to Steamboat Resort is Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN), also known as Hayden Airport. Hayden Airport is only a few minutes' drive from Steamboat Resort. From the airport, take the access road to Highway 40, turn right, and continue east for 22 miles until reaching the resort.

Shuttles are a convenient and safe way to travel from either airport to the resort. Shuttles need to be booked in advance.

Public transportation from Hayden or Denver International Airport to Steamboat Resort is not available.
