About Red Mountain Resort

RED Mountain Resort has 3,850 skiable acres and 119 marked trails spread across 4 main lift-served peaks. The resort is spread across three mountains (Granite, Red, and Grey Mountains), plus an extra peak of cat-skiing terrain.

RED is located near Rossland, British Columbia, along the famous “Powder Highway” and has a reputation for some of the best powder skiing and tree runs in North America, as well as fantastic off-piste terrain.

It’s important to note there is a cashless payment system across the resort, meaning you can only pay using a credit card, debit card, or mobile tap (Apple Pay or Google Pay).

Snowfall and Conditions at RED Mountain

RED Mountain gets nearly 300 inches of annual snowfall. The resort opens in early December and runs through to the start of April, weather permitting.

February and March are the best times for powder skiing, and have clearer weather and more bluebird days.

Average winter lows hover around -7.2C °C (19.04 °F). You can find the current weather conditions at RED here.

Winter at RED Mountain

Terrain at RED Mountain Resort caters primarily to intermediate and above, with nearly 50% rated advanced or expert. Beginners will find most green runs on Granite Mountain, where near 360-degree descents make it easy for mixed-ability groups to explore different trails from this peak and naturally regroup at the bottom for another lap.

Grey Mountain adds additional intermediate and advanced options, with consistent fall lines and tree skiing. Red Mountain has shorter but more concentrated advanced terrain, including chutes and glades, as well as a few intermediate runs.

Mt. Kirkup can only be accessed by the resort’s pay-per-run snowcat. It delivers more than 2,000 vertical feet and nearly 200 acres of advanced open runs and tree skiing. You can purchase single rides or a discounted multi-ride pack to hit  Mt. Kirkup’s ungroomed powder zones.

Anyone can join a free snow-host tour, led by locals who help visitors navigate the peaks and understand the best options for their ability level and the day’s conditions. This is not a lesson, but a great way to explore terrain with the people who know it best.

Winter Activities at RED Mountain Resort: Skiing and Snowboarding, Private and Group Lessons for Adults and Kids, Snowshoeing, Cross Country / Nordic Skiing, Ski Touring, Fat Biking, Cat-Skiing, Heli-Skiing

Summer at RED Mountain Resort

In summer, RED Mountain offers mountain biking, hiking, and other outdoor activities. The resort opened a mountain bike park in 2025 with singletrack, jump lines, and flow trails. Riders can choose from beginner-friendly forest trails, cross-country singletrack, or more technical downhill runs.

The nearby town of Rossland has a long history of mountain biking and is recognized as a key cycling destination in British Columbia. The area features over 200 kilometres of maintained trails, including downhill tracks, cross-country routes, and simpler forest trails. Road cycling is also popular, with scenic routes through the Kootenay region.

Redstone Golf Course is located about five minutes from the resort base. The base village provides basic services and dining options for visitors using the trails or other nearby attractions.

Summer Activities at RED Mountain Resort: Mountain Biking, Lessons and Clinics, Hiking, Scenic Gondola Rides, Disc Golf and Golf, Fishing, Paddling.

Getting Around

The Village at RED is located at the base of Red and Granite Mountains. It has a quiet and laid-back atmosphere compared to major resorts. The majority of vacation rentals at RED are set back from the main village. While some are ski-in/ski-out, others will be on a shuttle route.

If staying in Rossland, the free REd Mountain Express shuttles people between downtown and the mountain. The shuttle operates year-round, 7 days a week.

What’s New at

The RED mountain bike park opened for the summer of 2025. The lift-accessed bike park was phase one of a four-year plan that will position RED as a premier four-season destination for adventure.
