Big White Mountain is the third-largest ski resort in British Columbia, Canada. It’s known for being especially family-friendly, thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and wide range of activities. It offers nearly 2,800 acres of skiable terrain, one terrain park, and 119 marked runs. The majority of marked trails cater to beginners and intermediates, with 22% rated for experts and 6% for extreme skiers and riders.

Winter at Big White Mountain
Big White Mountain has 38 acres of night skiing, with lit terrain accessed by the Plaza Chair and Bullet Express. It runs Tuesday through Saturday and requires a separate ticket. The resort also features 25 kilometers of Nordic and wilderness trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Beyond the slopes, Big White Mountain has fun-for-everyone activities such as a tubing park and a 60-foot ice climbing wall, as well as more relaxed offers such as sleigh rides, an outdoor ice skating rink, and a lighted forest walk connecting the village to Happy Valley.

Summer operations only run Thursday through Sunday (plus holiday Mondays) from late June to early September. It’s also a good place to introduce kids to lift-accessed hiking or mountain biking, with a mix of beginner and intermediate trails. The smaller crowds and relaxed pace make it easy to explore trails, and still grab a spot on a patio for lunch or an early dinner.
While the resort focuses on weekend events like concerts, festivals, and races, these often come with extras such as face painting, ice cream, and games that draw local families up for the day. Big White Mountain is just an hour from Kelowna, where beaches, lakes, wineries, and golf courses offer plenty to round out a summer visit. Getting Around Big White Mountain
The easiest way to get around Big White Mountain is on foot or by ski. The majority of accommodations at Big White Mountain have some combination of ski-in/ski-out access, and even the main street in the pedestrian-only village is a ski run aptly named Central Village Run. Some properties offer a shuttle service for their guests. Alternatively, a complimentary on-mountain shuttle runs every 30 minutes daily, from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, throughout the ski season. Taxis and ride-share options are also available.
If you visit in summer, renting a car might be a great idea. Beyond the mountain, the Okanagan Valley below is a fantastic area to explore.
What's New at Big White Mountain
Big White Mountain has a lot in the works for the 2025-26 season, starting with on-mountain improvements including lift upgrades for Black Forest, a new haul rope for Falcon, and equipment investments for enhanced grooming.
Updates within the village include the reopening of Kettle Valley Steakhouse in Happy Valley, as well as a new daycare being added to the Kids’ Centre.

Getting to Big White Mountain
The best ways to get to Big White Mountain are by flying into Kelowna International Airport and then either renting a car or taking a shuttle directly to the resort. Alternatively, driving from nearby cities like Vancouver or Calgary is also a popular option, offering scenic routes through the mountains.
Directions from Kelowna International Airport (YLW), 58 km (36 mi), 1 hour From Airport Way turn left onto Hwy 97 N/Okanagan Hwy/BC-97 S. Turn left onto Hwy 33/Kelowna-Rock Creek Hwy/BC-33 (signs for Rock Crk). Turn left onto Big White Rd. Follow Big White Road/BC-33 E to Big White Mountain.
Directions from Vancouver, 449 km (279miles), 5 hours 40 minutes Take Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) eastbound toward Hope. In Merritt take exit 286 for BC-97C E/BC-5A S toward Kelowna. Turn left onto BC-5A/BC-97C. Use the left 2 lanes to merge onto Okanagan Hwy/BC-97 N toward Westbank/Kelowna/Vernon. Turn right onto Hwy 33/Kelowna-Rock Creek Hwy/BC-33 (signs for Rock Crk). Follow Big White Road/BC-33 E to Big White Mountain.
Directions from Calgary, 652 km (405miles), 7 hours 40 minutes Get on Trans-Canada Hwy/AB-1 W. Follow Trans-Canada Hwy to Vernon-Sicamous Hwy/BC-97A in Sicamous. Turn left onto Vernon-Sicamous Hwy/BC-97A. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Vernon-Sicamous Hwy/BC-97A S. Continue onto Okanagan Hwy/BC-97 S. Turn left onto Big White Rd. Follow Big White Road/BC-33 E to Big White Mountain.
