About the Resort

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is a world-class ski resort, with iconic ski runs, stunning natural scenery, luxurious slope side accommodations and spas, and laid-back Western charm. Frequently featured as one of North America's top ski resorts, Jackson Hole is an incredible area for skiing. It receives an average of 11.5 meters of snowfall a year, and boasts the longest continuous vertical rise of any ski area in North America. It measures 1262 meters from the valley floor to the top of Rendezvous Mountain! These slopes have varied terrain suitable for everyone from first-time skiers to daredevil experts. The fun continues off the ski hills with skating and snowshoeing, wildlife and scenic tours, concerts and events, and much more.

Jackson Hole is well known for its expert ski runs, including the legendary Colbert's Couloir. Spectators gather and tram riders watch as skiers and snowboarders plunge down the precarious drop. Colbert's Couloir is one of Jackson Hole's 21 expert runs, and has a further 54 advanced runs. For the intermediates, Jackson Hole has an impressive 50 runs. This resort is also a great place to begin skiing or snowboarding. It offers private and group lessons for all ages and skill levels, with gentle beginner runs to get you started.

Families and kids will love the kid-friendly activities at Jackson Hole. The Kids Ranch is a 20,000 square foot facility in the heart of Teton Village designed for children and families. It offers lessons, child care, and year-round seasonal programs. Your family can go sledding on the Cowboy Coaster, go tubing at the nearby Snow King Mountain, or tour through national parks on sleighs, snowmobiles, or safari-style vehicles. For indoor activities, try playing at the pool and water slide at the Teton Country Recreation Center, enjoying dinner with a show at the Jackson Hole Playhouse, or visiting the Teton Raptor Center.

Nestled against the Grand Teton National Park and close to Yellowstone National Park, the Jackson Hole valley is full of wildlife and dramatic scenery. Enjoy a horse-drawn sleigh ride amongst thousands of elk on the National Elk Refuge, or a snowmobile trip into Yellowstone. Enjoy the wildlife in Yellowstone National Park, as with over 60 species, it is home to the highest concentration of mammals in the lower 48 states. The gorgeous scenery and abundance of wildlife makes the Jackson Hole-Yellowstone area a spectacular place to explore.

With the best skiing around, a multitude of adventurous activities, wildlife viewing and national parks, luxurious spas, and a historic, western town, Jackson Hole has something for everyone.

Professional Surfer Ian Walsh Joins Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Athlete Team Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) is pleased to announce professional surfer Ian Walsh as the newest addition the JHMR athlete team. Ian, talented both on the snow and in the water, started snowboarding 14 years ago in Jackson Hole. At first Ian viewed snowboarding as an escape from the routine of riding waves year round, however snowboarding quickly became a new found passion. “With Ian spending more and more time in Jackson Hole, and knowing his dynamic relationship with many of our athletes, it seemed like a great convergence to bring Ian onto the team,” stated Anna Cole, Communications Director at JHMR.

"From my very first visit to Jackson Hole the place completely captivated me; the people, the mountains, the space, the town, and everything in between. I learned how to snowboard at JHMR and I haven’t missed a winter trip since, even at the cost of a few big swells,” stated Walsh. He went on to note, “The change of scenery compared to what I grew up with in Hawaii, and all the details of learning in an entirely new environment in the mountains is what draws me back to Jackson Hole. I’m really excited to join the JHMR team because for one, it is pretty unique for a surfer to be part of a freeride ski and snowboard team, and two, there isn't anywhere I have traveled that I have felt more at home with the other athletes, the locals, and everyone that works at the resort. Jackson Hole is a special place and I look forward to coming back every single year.”

History of Jackson Hole
1960
1960
Barry Corbet accompanied Paul McCollister on his first decent from the summit of Rendezvous Mountain. On their way up, Berry looked into what is now known as the infamous Corbet’s Couloir and said, “Someday, someone will ski that – it will be a run.” While Barry was not the first person to ski the couloir, he is credited with its name. Ski Patrolman Lonnie Ball is accredited with the first plunge into Corbet's Couloir after he was left dangling when a cornice broke off at the top. Barry did ski his namesake, from the top, a year or two later.
1963
McCollister formed the Jackson Hole Ski Corporation after a detailed study confirmed Rendezvous Mountain as a prime location for a ski area. His partners included Alex Morley, a successful general contractor from Cheyenne, and Gordon Graham, a former business associate from California.
1964
Construction of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort commenced in the spring, including the original aerial tram.
1965
Jackson Hole Ski Corporation opened Apres Vous Mountain to the public.
1966
The Jackson Hole Aerial Tram started taking people to the top of Rendezvous Mountain for skiing. The original Tram held 52 people and took 10.5 minutes to reach the summit at 10,450 feet. McCollister wanted a world-class skier to head the ski school and signed Pepi Stiegler, 1964 slalom gold medal winner, as ski school director of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Pepi carved out his own run on the edge of Cheyenne Bowl, called Pepi's Run.
1970
The first national Powder 8 Championship was held at Jackson Hole.
1989
New tram car cabins installed in December 1989.
1992
Paul McCollister sold Jackson Hole Ski Corp. to the Kemmerers, a family with over 100 year ties to Wyoming. John Resor was appointed president of Jackson Hole Ski Corp. The Kemmerers upgraded the Thunder Chair from double to quad.
1995
John Resor resigned as president. Jerry Blann, formerly of Aspen, Bear Mountain, and Lake Catamount ski resorts, replaced him as president of the resort.
1997
The Bridger Center and the Bridger Gondola opened. The Bridger Gondola is 8,730 feet long and rises 2,700 vertical feet in 7 1/2 minutes. The Bridger Center complex is a 37K sq ft multi-purpose facility which set the standard for new village architecture.
1999
The backcountry gate system was employed, effectively opening up thousands of acres of backcountry to all.
2006
After 40 years of service, the famed Aerial Tram was shut down to the public in order to build a newer, bigger and faster version.
2008
During Summer 2008, the towers for the new tram are erected, and the cables are tracked, hauled into place and spliced. Garaventa delivers the new tram cars in November. The New Aerial Tram opens on December.
2011
JHMR receives the NSAA Golden Eagle, the highest recognition of environmental achievement in the ski industry, for the second time.
