Ski Holidays in North America for Australians: 5 Fun Trip Ideas
Australia’s winter season may be almost over. But in North America, the weather is just starting to cool down, and ski resorts' 2025/2026 opening dates aren’t far away. If you’ve been considering an Australian ski holiday to Canada or the USA, choosing from many great resorts is no easy task. This article takes a look at 5 of the best ski resorts in North America for Australians, and how you can make the most of your holiday!
Whistler Blackcomb
Whistler. If there is one resort that rings a bell when you think of a Canadian ski trip, this is most likely it. With over 8,000 acres of ski and snowboard runs (the most in North America), it’s not difficult to understand why.
But the sheer volume of ski trails (200+) isn’t the only reason we love the idea of a ski trip to Whistler Blackcomb. It also averages over 400 inches of snow, is easy to get around, and offers enough après-ski and winter fun that you can easily stay weeks without running out of things to do.
Simply put, Whistler is the ultimate North American ski destination.
Activities
When planning a trip to Whistler, be sure to leave some time to explore the village and its surrounding area. Canada’s largest ski resort offers a lot of fun activities for couples or families to enjoy.
Some of our favorite ideas when you’re not skiing in Canada on your Whistler trip from Australia are:
Nordic bathing at Scandinave Spa: Dip into hot and cold baths, relax in the sauna, and enjoy aroma therapy in a eucalyptus steam room.
Ride the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola: Peak 2 Peak connects Whistler and Blackcomb. The nearly 3-mile ride towers above the resort’s snow-capped mountains at 1,400 feet.
Zipline through alpine forests: Take a daytime or dusk tour. Zipping across this winter wonderland for over 2,000 feet is a thrill the whole family can enjoy.
Whistler's Fire and Ice Show: Sundays from December to March give visitors a chance to listen to live music and see expert athletes ski and snowboard fly high through a ring of fire.

Activities Apart from long days of skiing, the seemingly endless amount of runs (there are nearly 150 in total), families have plenty of options for fun activities in and around Sun Peaks. Tucked away in a peaceful part of British Columbia in the Monashee Mountains, you can embrace the holiday spirit and enjoy a Canadian winter with many different activities, such as:
