Experience the best B.C. spring skiing has to offer at the family and beginner-friendly mountains of Whistler Blackcomb Resort, Big White Mountain, and Sun Peaks Resort. Take advantage of powder hound-approved snow, top-rated ski schools, and family-friendly activities and lodging options.
Most travellers fly into Vancouver (YVR), with the option to fly on to Kamloops (YKA) near Sun Peaks, or Kelowna (YLW) near Big White. If driving to any of these resorts, be prepared for winter conditions with proper tires and chains.
Sun Peaks Resort

Skiing at Sun Peaks
Sun Peaks Resort comprises three mountains (Tod, Sundance, and Morrisey) feeding into one charming pedestrian-only village. With an abundance of blue groomers, Sun Peaks also has extensive glades, moguls, and two alpine bowls, all steeped in deep powder.
To get to know the mountain, take a complimentary Sun Host Mountain Tour, offered daily for every ability by local experts. Find them between the Sunburst chairlift and the Village Day Lodge at 9:15am and 1:00pm.
Looking for lessons? The Sun Peaks Sports School offers a wide variety of programs for all age groups and abilities—from private tots lessons with childminding, to a weeklong Spring Break program for teens. They also give over-50 lessons, group backcountry tours, women’s-only sessions, and recreational race training.
The resort offers ski and snowboard equipment rentals at five locations throughout the village, giving you multiple convenient options for renting your equipment.
Alternative Mountain Activities
Sun Peaks has a variety of alternative mountain activities for those taking a break from downhill skiing. Try Nordic skiing on 37km of Nordic trails plus 19km of backcountry trails starting from the village. Nordic equipment is available to rent at the East Village Centre from 8:15am to 4:15pm.
Other popular activities include fat biking (rentals available at Elevation Bike, Ski & Board, snowshoeing independently or on a tour (rentals available in the Village Day Lodge), or ice skating at the open-air rink near the village. Skates are available for rent on location.
During the last few days of Spring Break, dig into the Savour culinary festival and Spring Snow Fest at Sun Peaks starting on March 27.
Dining and Lodging
There are 24 dining options at Sun Peaks, with many family-friendly options. Try the Umbrella Café at the base of the Orient Express for on-the-slope goodies, the village’s Mountain High Pizza serving fresh to-go pies, and Capones Italian Kitchen, featuring family-friendly pastas in an upscale dining room.
Sun Peaks accommodation includes condos, townhomes, chalets, and hotel options. Lodging can be found in the village areas, Burfield, the golf course, and the Sunburst and Sundance Estates.
Big White Mountain

Skiing at Big White Mountain
Voted the “Best International Family Ski Resort for 2025” by the Reader’s Choice Awards, and receiving over 7.5m of powder annually, Big White Mountain is a true haven for ski families. With at least one green run off every lift, endless groomed blues, and the experts’ Gem Lake Express area, Big White has runs for all skiers.
To get the lay of the land, take a free mountain tour (for intermediate riders), leaving from the Snow Host Meeting Place in the Village Centre daily at 10:30 am.
Big White Mountain also has night skiingat the beginner-friendly Bullet Express and the Plaza Chair, letting you shred on 38 acres after dark.
For lessons, head to the Ski & Board School with a range of opportunities from private, group, and women’s days, to pro-guided tours, adaptive skiing, and lessons for tots.
Rent your ski and snowboard equipment at the Big White Rental Shop in the Village Centre Mall, open until 4:30 pm when there is no night skiing and 8:30 pm when there is.
Alternative Mountain Activities
The resort offers numerous activities besides skiing and snowboarding, including tubing, ice skating, and Nordic skiing, fat biking and snowshoeing on 25km of trails.
Our favourite family-friendly option is to skate at Canada’s highest outdoor skating rink with beautiful mountain views (equipment available to rent there). Or go walking along the Twinkling Trail, open daily from dusk to dawn until April 6th, 2026.
Dining and Lodging
Big White Mountain Resort has 20 on-mountain dining options for the whole family. Enjoy the culinary variety of the Happy Valley Day Lodge, with four different options under one roof. Or dig into hearty Italian food at Sopra: Sam’s Italian Kitchen, a casual spot for family and friends. For a unique experience, take a [Horse Drawn Sleigh Dining Tour and enjoy dinner in a woodsy cabin.
Accommodation at Big White Mountain spans slopeside condos, chalets, and town homes in the bustling village or quieter White Forest, and Feathertop and Snow Pines Estates.
Whistler Blackcomb Resort

Skiing at Whistler
The largest ski resort in North America, with two different mountains, Whistler Blackcomb has over 200 marked runs, extensive family-friendly options, and an award-winning ski school.
The majority of trails are blues, but with terrain this large, there are plenty of options for beginner and expert skiers as well (including 16 alpine bowls and 3 glaciers). Both Whistler and Blackcomb also have progressive terrain parks.
Some family-friendly highlights include the 11km blue Peak to Creek run connecting Whistler peak to Creekside Village, and the Burnt Stew Trail, an intermediate run in the alpine with beautiful mountain views.
If you’re looking for some slopeside fun with the little ones, visit the Enchanted Tree Fort on Whistler and the Magic Castle on Blackcomb, two free playplaces where your kids can take their skis off and explore.
Whistler offers a variety of lessons, with private and group opportunities for every age group and ability. Alternatively, put your kids in a 5-day adventure camp and go on a private backcountry tour, or enjoy the personalization of women’s camps or the adaptive program.
Alternative Mountain Activities
After skiing, take a walk through the villages, with hundreds of shops selling apparel, gifts, local art, and mountain equipment. Or, opt for more high-speed fun at the tube park in the Base 2 Zone on Blackcomb or zipliningthrough the old-growth forest around Fitzsimmons Creek.
The Whistler Olympic Plaza offers many family-friendly activities, with a family après event every Monday & Wednesday from 3:00-6:00 pm, outdoor ice-skating, and a dedicated family snow zone.
If you’d like to take a break from skiing for a day, embark on a family-friendly snowshoe tour, and explore Whistler’s forests while learning about the local environment.
Dining and Lodging
There are over 170 options for dining at Whistler (most of which are kid-friendly), from slopeside waffles and a top-of-the-mountain cafeteria for lunch, to flatbread pizza and classic spaghetti for dinner.
Whistler accommodation is offered in the Whistler Village, Village North, Creekside, Blackcomb, Blueberry, and Wedge Mountain areas, with condo, town home, chalet, and hotel options.
