Snowfall and Conditions at Winter Park Resort
Winter Park averages 329 inches of snow each year. Winter at Winter Park
At over 9,000 feet above sea level, Winter Park’s high elevation can take some getting used to. The thinner mountain air means your body needs time to adjust. Stay hydrated, move at a relaxed pace, and save big exertion for day two.
Winter Park Village serves as the resort’s main base area, located at the foot of Winter Park Mountain. This pedestrian-only village offers shops, restaurants, lodging, and ski services in a lively yet relaxed setting.
While there is plenty of terrain for intermediate and above skiers and riders, Winter Park is an excellent resort for beginners. There are two dedicated learning areas here, Sorensen and Discovery Park, and the mountain is naturally divided for progression from short, flat slopes to wide, gentle green trails.
Mary Jane Mountain is known for its excellent tree skiing and challenging bump runs. The Mary Jane base offers essential skier services like a lift ticket office and limited dining options. It’s accessible via Highway US 40, just past the Winter Park Village turnoff.
You cannot walk between base areas, but you can ski or ride between them via the green trail Corridor from the Mary Jane Base down to Winter Park Village. If you begin your day at Winter Park Village, you can reach Mary Jane via several connecting trails. Be sure to check the trail map in advance to plan your route.
For something different, try the Ski and Ride by Headlamp. This two-hour guided session gives intermediate and advanced skiers and riders access to quiet, uncrowded runs after lifts close at 4 pm. The Sunset Snowshoe tours offer a similar experience without the skill-level requirement.
For every other night-owl, there’s glow tubing and cosmic glow ice skating offered Thursdays through Saturdays between 5 pm and 7 pm.

Getting Around Winter Park
Winter Park Village is the main base area for the resort, and it’s compact and easily walkable. While a few lodging options are located in the village, most vacation rentals are in the nearby towns of Winter Park (about 5 minutes by car) and Fraser (about 12 minutes by car), which also tend to be more affordable.
A free transit service called The Lift operates year-round between Winter Park Resort, downtown Winter Park, and Fraser. Unlike larger resort areas, taxis and ride-sharing apps such as Uber and Lyft are generally not available, so plan accordingly if you need transportation beyond the shuttle route.
What’s New at Winter Park
Starting December 19, 2025, the Winter Park Express will run to and from the resort every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through January 4, 2026. From January 8 to March 29, 2026, Amtrak will offer regular service Thursday through Sunday from Denver’s Union Station. Fares are affordable, making the train a convenient option: one-way tickets range from $19 to $39 per person, depending on the date and capacity, while children 12 and under travel for half the adult fare.
Winter Park has also upgraded its snowmaking system, allowing more terrain to open earlier in the season for better early-season skiing and riding.
