About Copper Mountain Resort

Located in Colorado’s Summit County, Copper Mountain Resort has over 2,500 acres of naturally divided terrain that separates beginner, intermediate, and expert runs. The mountain has more than 140 trails spread across its three peaks and three distinct base areas. Known for its relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, the resort often flies under the radar with destination skiers, earning a loyal following among locals who consider it a hidden gem.

Snowfall and Weather Conditions at Copper Mountain Resort

Copper Mountain receives an average annual snowfall of 300 inches. The season starts by mid-November and typically lasts until early or mid-May. Check the current conditions at Copper Mountain, including a six-day forecast, or the snowfall and weather stats here.

Winter at Copper Mountain Resort

Copper Mountain’s winter season goes well beyond skiing and snowboarding, though with naturally divided terrain and progressive terrain parks, it’s a strong draw for both. It’s also the official training center for the US Ski & Snowboard Team, which has earned it the nickname “The Athletes’ Mountain.”

Off the slopes, you’ll find a tubing hill, ice skating in Center Village, and the alpine Rocky Mountain Coaster that runs year-round. The resort also offers snowshoe and cross-country trails at the Copper Nordic Center. Après tends to stay low-key, with options for casual dining, craft beer, and live music.

Summer at Copper Mountain Resort

Copper Mountain is the only resort to offer on-snow summer camps where kids and adults have an opportunity to develop their ski and ride skills throughout the summer. Space is limited and camps fill up quickly, so booking well in advance is recommended. Most other activities are available as walk-ups and covered under the summer activity day pass. These include ziplining over West Lake, go-karts, bungee trampolines, and lift-served hiking and biking. There’s also paddle boarding, disc golf, an outdoor climbing wall, and Copper Creek Golf Course—the highest-elevation course in North America.

Summer Activities in Copper Mountain: Mountain Biking, Recreational Biking, Lessons and Clinics, Snow Camps, Hiking, Golf and Disc Golf, Rocky Mountain Coaster, WreckTangle Obstacle Challenge, Scenic Chairlift Rides, Bumper Boats, Go Karts, Bungee Trampoline.

Getting Around Copper Mountain Resort

Copper Mountain has three centralized pedestrian villages—East, West, and Center Village. A free resort shuttle connects visitors with all three villages, as well as Alpine and Far East parking lots. Visitors will find that the heart of the action lies in Center Village, where there are multiple restaurants, shops, and activities.

Many properties offer a complimentary shuttle for their guests.

Taxis and ride-share options are also available.

What’s New at Copper Mountain Resort

New for the 2025 season, Copper Mountain opened a high-speed six-pack, the Timberline Express Chairlift. The new chair increased uphill-capacity to Copper’s popular groomed terrain in the western territory.

In August 2024, Copper reopened the redesigned Back 9 at Copper Creek Golf Course. In 2023, the mid-mountain food hall Aerie Lodge opened at the top of the American Eagle lift. Refer to our Copper Mountain Dining Guide for a list of excellent restaurants for every budget.

Getting to Copper Mountain Resort

When planning your journey to Copper Mountain, Denver International Airport (DIA) stands out as a primary entry point. Boasting the most flights and often offering competitive fares, DIA serves as a hub for major carriers like United and Frontier, along with frequent services from Delta and Southwest. Given Denver's robust winter preparedness, flight disruptions due to snowstorms are rare, instilling confidence in your travel plans.

Upon arrival at Denver International Airport, simply hop onto Interstate 70 and head west to exit 195, where Copper Mountain awaits. While the drive typically takes about two hours, heavy traffic in the ski resort corridor may extend travel time. To bypass the hassle of driving, convenient shuttle services offer fast and reliable transportation, allowing you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the mountainous scenery without worrying about winter road conditions.

Alternatively, Eagle County Regional Airport presents a closer option, just 55 miles west of Copper Mountain, offering a smoother and shorter drive compared to DIA. Despite potential flight connections through DIA, the convenience of Eagle County Regional Airport minimizes overall travel time.

Travelers may also consider Colorado Springs Airport, which boasts direct services and attractive flight deals. While the drive from Colorado Springs to Copper Mountain takes a bit over two and a half hours, some locals prefer this route for its less crowded roads, which provide a quicker and easier journey.
