Solitude Ski Resort | Utah | 2025 Information
About Solitude Resort
Solitude Ski Resort is located about 35 minutes from Salt Lake City in Utah’s Big Cottonwood Canyon. The resort covers more than 1,200 acres with 82 runs served by 8 lifts. Only about 10% of trails are designed for beginners, which gives Solitude its reputation as an excellent resort for off-piste, advanced, and extreme terrain. While terrain leans advanced, it remains a popular destination for all ability levels and has a great ski school for beginners.
Snowfall and Conditions
Solitude is one of the snowiest ski resorts in the US, and receives around 500 inches of snowfall each year. Its summit elevation of 10,488 feet keeps snow quality high throughout the season. Conditions are often reliable from December through early spring. Check the current weather conditions at Solitude before you travel.
Winter at Solitude
While smaller than nearby Park City or Deer Valley, Solitude’s layout, snow quality, and variety of terrain make it a strong choice for those who want on time on the mountain, rather than crowds or nightlife.
Beginners can start near the Moonbeam base area on wide, gentle runs like Easy Street, while intermediates will find long groomers and rolling terrain across the resort. Advanced skiers and snowboarders spend much of their time on the steeper sections accessed by Summit Express and Powderhorn II. Honeycomb Canyon is a highlight for expert terrain, offering chutes, glades, and natural features that feel like backcountry skiing within resort boundaries. Solitude also has two terrain parks, both designed for skill progression.
A network of Nordic trails at the Solitude Nordic Center offers classic and skate skiing routes through Big Cottonwood Canyon. Snowshoeing is another popular activity, with rentals and marked trails available directly from the village.

Summer at Solitude
Solitude’s lift-served bike park features downhill trails and a hybrid tech/jump trail. All bike trails are accessible via the Moonbeam Express, and the park offers twilight lift hours until 8:00 pm for sunset rides. From Moonbeam Village, you can access several hiking trails that take you through wildflower meadows or by alpine lakes. Trails starting at a higher elevation are accessed via the Sunrise lift over in Solitude village.
The Solitude Adventure Park is located in the Moonbeam base area. A ticket here lets your 6-14-year-old kids burn off energy on the climbing wall, bungee trampoline, ninja skills course, or in the bounce house.
Solitude has two disc golf courses. A beginner-friendly 9-hole course starts near Moonbeam Village, while an 18-hole lift-accessible course begins at 9,000 feet, offering both scenic views and a more challenging layout. Disc rentals are available on-site (or bring your own), and a lift ticket or Ikon Pass is required to ride the Sunrise chair to reach the 18-hole course.

Getting Around Solitude
Solitude has two base areas: Solitude Village and Moonbeam. Moombean is the main parking lot for day-use guests. Services here include a lift ticket office, rentals, and dining options.
Solitude Village is half a mile down the road and has lodging and a handful of dining options. A free shuttle operates between the base areas in winter, and ride-share services are also available in the canyon, though service can be limited. Skiers and snowboarders can use the Link lift at Moonbeam to access Solitude Village or ski down via Easy Street from Solitude Village to Moonbeam.
What’s New at Solitude
Ahead of the 2025-26 season, Solitude has upgraded its snowmaking system with the aim of opening lower-mountain terrain earlier in the season. Avalanche control has also been enhanced with new Wyssen towers, improving safety and enabling faster openings in areas like Honeycomb Canyon.
Phase one of the resort’s mountain biking trail network was completed in the summer of 2025. A new green freeride trail runs from the top of Moonbeam, across the Apex terrain pod, and back to the Moonbeam base area. The trail is scheduled to fully open for summer riding in 2026.
