If you think a trip to Sun Peaks is magical as an adult, imagine it through the keen eyes of a child. Horse-drawn sleighs gliding through the village, snow falling over the forested mountains, and hot chocolate served everywhere you look; it's like visiting a snow globe.

This year, plan a trip to Sun Peaks and check out why both Conde Nast and Liftopia have rated Canada’s second largest ski resort as one of the most family-friendly in North America. Here are a few of our favorite activities for families in the Sun Peaks area.

Tube Park

“Tube Time,” located right outside the Coast Sundance Lodge, offers lift-accessed tubing in the heart of Sun Peaks’ village. After hopping on the carpet lift with your tube, zoom down the curved tubing lanes back to the base of the lift. Repeat until you’ve had your fill of tubing, or until the tubing runs close at 7:00pm!

All ages are welcome at the tube park, and children under 5 ride for free. Kids tickets start at $12 for two hours, and the park is open daily at noon during the winter season.

Looking for a free sledding activity? Do as the locals do and bring your own toboggan or sled to the hill near the Morrisey Express chairlift!

Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides

Nestle your little one onto your lap for an unforgettable sleigh ride with Sun Peaks Stables. Sleigh rides are available on the hour from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. Each ride winds through Sun Peaks’ village before gliding through a forest trail. The horses pull the sleigh to a panoramic viewpoint before returning to the village via a gentle ski run.

Snuggle into the provided blanket, and bring your own hot chocolate to warm you from the inside. If you’re looking for something extra special to do with your family, book a private sleigh and have the adventure all to yourselves.

Sundance Kids Centre and Ski Lessons

If you have children too young to spend a day on the slopes (or if they are skied out!) swing by the Sundance Kids Centre at the base of the Sunburst chairlift. The Sundance Kids Centre offers childcare for kids aged 18 months to 5 years from 8:00am to 4:30pm daily. The Sundance Kids Centre features indoor and outdoor play, games, snacks, and beverages. The program “Sun Tots” mixes childcare with private one- or two-hour ski and snowboard lessons.

To enjoy an adults-only evening out, sign your children up for an “après activity night” at the Sundance Kids Centre from 4:30pm to 8:30pm. Activity nights include dinner and snacks, as well as a themed activity such as paint night, movie night, and yoga and relaxation night.

Ice Fishing

Have you ever pulled a rainbow trout from a narrow hole drilled in thick ice? Bring your camera and GoPro (an underwater GoPro mount is provided) to capture you and your children doing just that with Elevated Fishing Adventures.

Elevated Fishing Adventures will pick you up at Sun Peaks Resort and drive you and your family to a nearby frozen lake in the company of one of their knowledgeable fishing guides. All gear is provided, including a heated ice tent, chairs, an ice drill, and fishing poles. Your guide will show you how to cut a hole, bait your line, and start fishing. No experience is necessary, and the 4-hour excursion is suitable for anyone over four years old.

Keep your catch to grill up for dinner, or release the trout back into the wild. After your day of fishing is complete, Elevated Fishing Adventures will transport you back to Sun Peaks.

Dog Sled Tours

For an activity that the whole family will be talking about for years, book a dog sled tour with Mountain Man Adventures. Settle into a dog sled and enjoy the exhilaration of traveling along 10 kilometres of private trails under the power of a team of Alaskan Huskies. Your musher will not only see you safely through the adventure but will introduce you to how sled dogs live and work. The dogs love belly rubs, too!

Dog sled tours are offered four times a day through March, and each tour takes approximately 1.5 hours. A shuttle is provided from the resort to Mountain Man Adventures. Dog sled tours are appropriate for kids aged four and older when accompanied by their parent or guardian.

Whether you’re skiing, tubing, sleighing, dog sledding, or relaxing, there is no shortage of family-friendly fun to be found at Sun Peaks Resort. Book your accommodations with The Lodging Company today, and get ready to make memories that will last a lifetime.
