There are fun Breckenridge seasonal activities and programming throughout the year, but understanding what each season offers can make planning your stay much easier.
Winter in Breckenridge
Winter is the most visited season all around in Breckenridge, when a large share of the 3 million annual visitors show up to ski and snowboard at the famous resort. The ski resort has 3,000 acres of high-elevation terrain, with North America’s highest chairlift, which carries skiers to nearly 13,000 feet of elevation. The mountain offers a nice mix of runs, including park terrain, groomed trails, and challenging glades.
But skiing isn’t the only reason to visit Breckenridge in the winter. Seasonal events and local celebrations also highlight the coldest months. And the transportation system makes it easy to get from place to place.

Ullr Fest
Held each January for decades, Ullr Fest is a unique Breckenridge experience. An homage to the Norse god of snow, the lively celebration on Main Street features a parade with Viking-themed costumes, creative floats, and a fun atmosphere that may be Colorado’s best winter party.
Holiday Events
December is a festive month in Breckenridge, with holiday events throughout the village and on Main Street. If you visit around Christmas, you can expect to find:

International Snow Sculpture Championships
The International Snow Sculpture Championships is a 10-day event that typically starts in late January. Teams compete with only hand tools to carve frozen monoliths out of Breck’s perfect snow. Visitors can walk through the collection of sculptures at Riverwalk Center Plaza downtown.

Spring in Breckenridge
Visiting Breckenridge in the spring is one of the more appealing seasons for skiing and snowboarding. Days are getting longer, the temperatures are heating up, and it’s still ski season. In fact, many skiers consider spring their favorite season, with shorter lift lines and plenty of sunshine. The snow quality can still be good, especially if you visit by early April.
Beyond skiing, some events and activities make spring a good time to visit between the peak ski and summer seasons.
Pond Skim
Spring skiing in Breckenridge isn’t complete without the famous pond skim on Peak 8. It’s a fun tradition that wraps up the ski season with a splash.
Live Music
Although you can find live music at Main Street bars and restaurants year-round, spring kicks off outdoor events as ski season winds down. April is a fun time to visit, as live performances near the annual pond skim festivities make for a unique après-ski experience.
Fat Biking

Summer in Breckenridge
Summer in Breckenridge brings longer days, warmer weather, and seasonal activities on the mountain. Visitors can hike alpine trails, photograph seasonal wildflowers, or chat over sunset cocktails from one of Main Street’s patio bars late in the day.
Beyond hiking and socializing, summer has some exciting events and adventures.
Mountain Biking
When the ski season wraps up, Breckenridge Resort continues to draw outdoor enthusiasts for its hundreds of miles of mountain biking terrain. Beginners and families can explore bike paths downtown and near the base area, while experienced cyclists can take the lift up to Peak 8 or Peak 9 for downhill trail riding down Breckenridge’s famous slopes.
BreckConnect Gondola
The free gondola connects Main Street to the mountain, making it as convenient for summer activities in Breckenridge as it is for skiing. Riding BreckConnect up to Peak 8, you can enjoy panoramic vistas, hidden hiking trails, and hours of family fun at Epic Discovery.
Epic Discovery
From June through August, Epic Discovery turns the base of Peak 8 into a hub for adventure. Attractions include a rope course, a bungee trampoline, the Gold Runner Coaster, and panning for gemstones.
Summer Festivals
Summer also features a calendar of events that many visitors plan their trips around. From a 4th of July celebration on Main Street to the 3-day Breckenridge Food and Wine Festival in July, seasonal events are in full swing throughout the warmer months.
Fall in Breckenridge
Many travelers consider fall the best season to visit Breckenridge. Temperatures cool down without getting too cold, and the crisp autumn air makes outdoor time more comfortable. While days get shorter, there’s still plenty of sunlight for hiking or mountain biking, with fall foliage transforming the mountain landscape from summer greens to brilliant shades of yellow, red, and orange.

Oktoberfest
For 30 years, Breckenridge has been home to one of Colorado’s best fall events, Oktoberfest. Along with German beer and cuisine, the event features the Oktoberfest 5K race, live music, and a new kids' area with a bounce house and family-friendly activities. It’s located downtown, at the heart of Main Street.
