About the Resort

Located in the breathtaking Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, Marmot Basin is a ski and snowboard destination that provides an experience that inspires memories that last a lifetime. Being the only ski area in 11,000 square kilometres4,247 square miles of wilderness, there's a high expectation to meet when guests come to Marmot Basin. It's not uncommon to have this expectation exceeded as soon as guest step foot into the resort.

With the highest base elevation of ski areas in Canada, Marmot Basin enjoys abundant dry, natural snow from mid-November to early May. Marmot Basin annually receives over 400 centimetres158 inches of snow and with a state-of-the art snowmaking system in the lower area, Marmot ensures superb snow from opening to closing day.

With four mountain faces, it is one of the most diverse ski areas in North America for enthusiasts of all abilities. Boasting over 678 hectares1,675 acres of skiable terrain and seven modern lifts means the only time to rest is in the lodge, not waiting in lines. Offering 86 runs and 914 vertical metres2,999 vertical feet of varied terrain—from long, perfectly groomed trails to high alpine bowls and steep chutes filled with Rocky Mountain powder—families and experts have room to carve turns at their leisure.

Virtually every location on the mountain is an inspirational viewpoint. Surrounded by protected wilderness in every direction, nothing compares to this unparalleled paradise. Jasper is unique among ski areas for wildlife viewing opportunities. Winter visitors regularly get to see elk, Bighorn sheep, deer, coyotes, and more rarely, wolves, lynx, moose or even a woodland caribou. The community offers many other great Canadian pursuits such as cross country skiing, ice skating on frozen lakes, ice canyon walks, snowshoeing treks, dog-sledding and regional helicopter skiing or cat-skiing.

Everyone leaves the mountain at the end of a ski day to mix with the Jasper locals who are quick with a smile, and a tale or two, as they share their slice of heaven with visitors. Enjoy Canadian and international cuisine at the numerous restaurants or lively night haunts, while staying in quaint inns or luxurious lodges. Many skiers and snowboarders who visit Jasper once end up as residents!

So venture beyond the crowds and lift lines this winter to Jasper—a Canadian ski town.
